On Patience

When I first looked at this photo I was just hit by the thought, “wow, that is patience”. I don’t know if it is a he or she, so I must refer to this beautiful animal as it.  It just rests there so contentedly it seems, so peaceful, not worrying about the future but just enjoying the now.  Patience has never been one of my virtues and I so envy this ability to relish the present moment.  So to me, this photo exemplifies what patience looks like.

So I tell myself.  How long did it take to carve out this magnificence?  Slowly, bit by bit it takes place and continues on forever.  In the realm of eternity time has no meaning.

And so it is in our lives, but we need that patience to understand that even in the small moments of our lives we are being weathered and carved and changed.  Those changes are usually small and subtle and hard to see.  But when we look back we can see the hand of God gently carving out our lives and experiences.  How many times have I looked back and realized how circumstances and events shaped my present.  And wondered how present circumstances and events are shaping my future.  I do believe what people say about the universe bringing you what you need when you need it.  But I am not a patient person, and I do not have eternity.  So I remind myself, you can’t rush God’s plan.  He has perfect timing.
